In the month of September, Sparkabilities and The Hero of Color City, coming to theaters, iTunes and On Demand everywhere, October 3rd, present to you, the PlayWisely Activity of the Week.  Each week, your child will learn to draw a familiar and fun subject.  The final activity will incorporate all of the drawings into a final scene that you can enjoy and talk about with your child!

Last week we learned how to draw a sun with the color yellow.  If you missed this fun challenge you can find a link to the activity here.

This week's activity features the color and Hero of Color City character, Blue.  This week, we will learn to draw a cloud and rain using circles and short and long strokes from last week.  This activity supports the development of fine motor skill, color recognition and shape recognition.

Part 1:  Circles on Circles
Using a blank piece of paper and a blue crayon, tell your child that you are going to be drawing a cloud.  Demonstrate making a group of overlapping circles.

Part 2:  Color it in
Start to color in your overlapping circles and ask your child what it is.  "That's right!  It's a cloud!"  Ask your child to try it with you.  Have fun and praise your child for their efforts.

Part 3:  Make Rain
Alternate drawing long and short strokes coming down from the cloud.  "What do you think these lines coming down from the cloud are?"  "Yes, rain!"  Ask your child to copy the long and short strokes to make rain coming down from their cloud.

More
Repeat the activity making diagonal strokes!  Talk about how wind can make the rain go diagonally.

Discussion:
Talk to your child about the color blue and things that they may recognize as being blue, the sky, water, etc.  Look for the color blue when you are out and about!
